Terry Fox

Today students watched an eight minute documentary on Terry Fox. The documentary is a few years old and was produced by ESPN (it is one of my favourite short documentaries on Terry Fox).

Students first brainstormed what they knew (or thought they knew) about Terry Fox and posed several questions of inquiry that they hoped to be answered by watching the video (for example, how many km did Terry Fox run before he had to stop).

Before we watched the video, I also partnered students up and presented the big thinking question: What motivated Terry Fox to keep running? Use ideas from the video to justify your answer. 

After watching and discussing the video and big thinking question, students answered the question on chart paper. Afterwards, students recorded an audio version of their answers on the iPad.
