Students were given the following ACTION question in math this afternoon: Pick a number between 1 and 100 and find a way to represent that number. You may use your choice of math tool as long as you draw an image of how you represented your number. We graphed students' answers according to the math tool they used. We found out that most people used cubes or tally marks while few people used cuisnaire rods and skip counting. I was very impressed with the variety of math tools student chose to represent their numbers : tally marks cubes base ten blocks number sentences arrays skip counting |
