Our writing mini lesson focused on choosing good action words for steps when writing procedures/instructions. This book was perfect since each page contained an action word that was paired with a picture (for example pounce, scratch, chase, stalk, clean, explore etc.). Students worked in pairs to complete the steps for How To Be A Cat. Students practised their presentation by talking and pointing through their procedure. Their presentation included 3 main areas: What- their topic was What-items were needed How-to achieve their goal. This part was broken down into several steps. Each step contained an action word from the story followed by a detail that explained the step. Students presented their procedures in front of the green screen with kittens crawling around in the background! |
