Brush You Must!

Today students were given a challenging writing task! Their task: Teach an extraterrestrial how to brush their teeth. I played the part of the alien (wearing my Yoda helmet) and students needed to come up with a set of instructions that would teach me how to brush my teeth. I brought my toothbrush, toothpaste and cup to class.

When students presented their instructions, I followed their directions however I intentionally made mistakes if the directions were not specific enough. For example when students directed me to put the toothpaste on the toothbrush, I proceeded to cover the handle of the toothbrush with toothpaste (this got lots of laughs). After the presentations (and lots of laughs and brushing) we decided that instructions need to be specific besides just being in the correct order. What a fun lesson!
