On Friday April 29th, our class will be Skyping with author Claire Cameron. Claire has published one novel and is currently working on her second. She also has written book reviews for the Globe and Mail. Claire's first novel, The Line Painter, is a novel (aimed at adults) set in Northern Ontario. Her novel won the Northern Lit Award from the Ontario Library Service and was nominated for an Arthur Ellis Crime Writing Award for best first novel. Students will be interviewing Claire, via Skype, about living her life as a writer and novelist and how she uses her writer's notebook.. Students began with a list of 32 questions and narrowed their list down to 9 questions:

What is your favourite children’s book?

How long have you been a writer?

Why did you want to be a writer?

What type of books do you write?

What writing goals did you have as a kid?

How many books have you read?

Have you used parts of your own life in your stories?

What text features have you included in your writing?

Is there anything you particularly find challenging when you’re writing?

Today students prepared for the video conference. They practice introducing themselves and reading their question into the microphone with a partner. I recorded all of the students questions and played them back so they could hear how they sounded.
