The Little Prince

Yesterday we kicked off our Global Read Aloud by reading first first two chapters of "The Little Prince." When introducing a book in class, I always remember the acronym C.A.T.S. I cover up the title and show students the cover and back cover (C). Then I tell students who the author is (A). If they know it is a  Robert Munch book (for example), then their prediction would probably involve some funny plot line. Next I uncover the title (T). Finally I skim (S) through the book or do a picture walk. During this whole process I ask students to continue to make and build upon their predictions. Finally I give students the opportunity to share their predictions with a partner and then with the class. Here are a few of our predictions for The Little Prince: http://bit.ly/97Q6Of . Tomorrow we will continue reading  The Little Prince. We will read some predictions other classes made and confirm or revise our predictions.
