Making the World a Little Smaller

We are continuing to read The Little Prince. At the beginning of the story, the main character draws a picture of a boa constrictor digesting a wild beast. He was miffed when grown-ups said it was a hat and at that point he decided that he would not pursue a career as an artist. Students in my class were asked to draw their version of a boa constrictor swallowing a wild beast. Afterward, I scanned all of the pictures and mounted them in a very vibrant video (see above). As part of the Global Read Aloud,  I shared this video with other teachers in the project. I told students in our class that their video would be shown in a number of classrooms in Canada and the United States. They now have an audience for their work! Students in our class also got to see other students' drawings. Here is a link to drawings done by Mrs. Ripps' Grade 4 Class in Wisconsin, USA.

We also listened to other students' predictions about the book and compared them to our own predictions.
