It's Like a Movie in our Mind!

The READING POWER we have been working on this week is visualization. Visualization is using our mind's eye to create pictures and videos from the words when we are reading. Creating visuals is the key to understanding what we read. If the visualizations stop, we have lost the meaning of the text and need to go back (I remember having to do this with University textbooks).

Students have been practicing their visualization skills. They have been drawing what images appear in their head as they read and writing down the picture words that are helping them create these images. When reading at home, have your child pick out picture words in their books (or books you are reading them) that help them visualize the story. You can also ask them what sort of pictures they are visualizing from a specific page.
