Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a terrific holiday! Today we got back into the swing of things in our classroom. Students shared one thing they did over the break during a "snowball" activity. Students wrote down what they did on a piece of paper then crumbled it up. On the count of three, everyone threw their snow ball into a bucket. Each student then picked out a snowball and shared what was written with the class. It was a fun way to share everyone's holiday adventures.

I will not be sending homework until Friday (Day 1). Try to aim for 15 minutes of reading a night. Raz Kids (see side bar) is a great way to mix in some reading on the computer with books.

Please make sure you hand back the skating form that was handed out just before the break. Please let me know if you need another form.

This week were are continuing to work on small moments writing. Today students wrote about a small moment that happened to them over the break. In reading we are continuing to work on asking good questions before, during and after reading. In math we are working on subtraction, reviewing patterning and will be starting measurement soon.

Best regards,
P. Johnson
