Google Maps

Today students had the chance to try out Google Maps with the laptops. Earlier this week I showed students Google Maps on the SMART board. We used a tool called the distance calculator to measure various points and objects on the map. For example we discovered the Centennial Beach in Barrie was 400 meters long. We also measured the roof of the Roger's Centre which we found out was 200 meters. Students also estimated the distance (referring to the scale on the map) before measuring. This reflected our learning goal of estimating and measuring using meters.
