Fluency Strategy

Today we added another strategy to our CAFE MENU reading strategies board. The strategy falls under fluency and it is called Reread Text. To be a fluent reader you must be able to read smoothly, read with expression and read the words accurately. The Reread Text strategy has students picking a passage from a book. They then reread that passage until they become fluent in it.

As a fun way to introduce this strategy, I had students practice a tongue twister with a partner. The goal was to try and read the tongue twister smoothly, accurately and with expression.

Peter Piper- Mother Goose

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers;

A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked;

If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,

Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
