Creating SCDSB Character Trait Dioramas Using Cospaces VR App

Students have been exploring the Cospaces App. The Cospaces app allows the user to create scenes in virtual reality. 

This week students used the Cospaces app to create a diorama. After they created their diorama, they shared their creations with the class using Google Classroom. Students also had to chance to view the dioramas in virtual reality using Google Cardboard.

The following task was posted in Google Classroom:
Cospaces Character Project

Task: In Cospaces, create a diorama that demonstrates a SCDSB Character Trait. When someone views your diorama in VR, they should be able in INFER what character trait is being demonstrated as well as any WOWs (Words of Wisdom).

Your diorama should include
-A background scene
-Speech or thought bubbles
-Clues that allow your reader to INFER what character trait your diorama relates to and what is going on in the scene

The Results:

In this diorama, students:
FACTS
-Saw a women saying "I'm home" and a man saying "okay."
QUESTIONS
-Wondered where the women was before this? Also wondered why was the man already home?
INFER
-Maybe the women was at work and the man was at home taking care of their children. This lead us to a discussion of gender roles.
SCDSB CHARACTER TRAITS THAT WERE IDENTIFIED: 
-Cooperation, Respect and Responsibility

In this diorama, students:
FACTS
-Saw a women saying "Do not bring the cat inside."
-Saw a man saying "I won't."
-Saw the cat thinking " He probably will. He never has honesty and you should always have honesty."
QUESTIONS
-Wondered why the cat was thinking this?
INFER
-Maybe his owner has difficulty telling the truth and is often sneaky. This lead us to discussion about why honesty is important.
SCDSB CHARACTER TRAITS THAT WERE IDENTIFIED: 
-Honesty

In this diorama, students:
FACTS
-Saw a lion asking a butterfly "Do you want to be friends with me?"
-Saw a thought bubble on the butterfly that says "Yes or no."
-Saw a speech bubble on the butterfly the says "Yes."
QUESTIONS
-Wondered why the butterfly was thinking both yes and no?
INFER
-Maybe the butterfly was unsure it wanted to be friends and it was deciding whether to take the risk. Maybe the butterfly was shy. This lead us to a discussion of friendships and the importance of trying to include others.
SCDSB CHARACTER TRAITS THAT WERE IDENTIFIED: 
-Courage, Inclusiveness
