We are working on writing to convince (persuasive writing). I first showed students a video about cats and dogs (a contest of sorts) to provoke their interests. Students then were given the prompt: Does a dog or a cat make a better pet? Justify your answer.
Students, with a partner, discussed then wrote their opinions. Students were asked provide sufficient reasons (good reasons) to support their opinions.
Below is a collection of our most convincing reasons why a cat or a dog makes a better pet.
