Persuasive Writing

Today students worked on persuasive writing. In our community circle students were asked:
Should our class have more homework? I enjoy asking questions that elicit a strong response!

Students took turns answering the question orally by restating the question with a gist answer and providing a supporting detail or two. 

Afterwards, students were grouped into pairs and wrote out their answers. The emphasis was to come up with a gist answer and details that could be used to convince me of their position on homework. Students then shared their answers with the class.
