Today we watched a live webcast by Author Kevin Henkes. We have read and discussed three of his books so far this year. Kevin Henkes talked about living his life as a writer and how he came up with some of the ideas for his books (which I was very anxious for my students to hear).
Before the webcast we brainstormed what we knew about Kevin Henkes: - He writes picture books.
- His books contains real life type problems.
- He has written a lot of books.
- His stories usual start of with the main character happy but then they encounter some sort of problem where they become very upset.
- His books have happy endings.
- There is usually a lesson to be learned from reading his books.
We brainstormed questions we wanted to Kevin Henkes to answer: - What is your favourite story you have written?
- What is your longest story?
- How do you get your ideas?
- Who is your favourite character?
- How do you get your books published?
- Do you know the ending of a book when you begin to write it?

- I learned that he published his first book when he was 19 years old.
- I learned that Kevin Henkes likes to do art.
- I learned that he writes his books on a typewriter.
