Students in grade 1 and 2 have been learning to estimate and measure using non-standard units (cubes). Yesterday they were given the challenge to carry out an experiment to find out how the steepness of a ramp affects the distance a toy car travels. Students collected data on the distance the car traveled with a partner. They estimated the height of the ramp then measured it in cubes. They estimated the distance the car traveled and then measured it in cubes. Generally grade 2 students were given higher ramps since they would be measuring greater distances. Afterwards we graphed our results on the Smartboard. |
