Measuring Outside

Last week we took our math lesson outside!

First, we measured pieces of string so they were 20 cm long. Students' task was to find an object outside and use the 20 cm string to estimate how long it was. Afterwards, we entered their estimation into a Google Form in order to look at all of our measurement data (see spreadsheet).

We found that the smallest object (rock) that was measured was a 2cm long. The largest object measured was the length of our portable which measured 1000 cm or 10m (which we discussed was about the same length as a school bus).
