Students Creating Their Own Bump it Up Wall

Students have been working on writing procedures. They are now writing procedures independently. Students were given writing samples of procedures. Their task was to use the criteria of awesome (writing checklists) to give feedback on each writing sample. They noted what they liked about the writing and 1 or 2 ways the piece of writing could be improved. Next they gave the writing sample a level from 1 to 4 and posted it on our wall. 

Students can now compare their writing to these writing samples. For example, if their procedure looks similar to the level 2 sample then they can use the suggestions on the writing sample to improve their writing (for example, add 1 or 2 sentences to explain each step).
