Students have been working on repeating shape patterns. In this math activity students created, recorded and predicted repeating patterns using pattern blocks.

1. First Students created a shape pattern that repeated 3 times.
2. Then students made a prediction as to what the 20th shape would be in their pattern.
3. Students then coloured a 100s chart to match the colours in their pattern. Students continued the pattern on the hundreds chart to the 20th shape and examined whether their prediction matched the shape found using the 100s chart.
4. Next student predicted what the 89th shape in the pattern would be. Students looked for patterns on the 100s chart to aid in their prediction (students found it interesting they could predict the shape without making the physical shape pattern).
5. Students finished colouring the rest of the 100s chart using patterns they saw on the chart.
